Don’t throw your turkey bones away! Cook it down to make effortless broth for homemade soups, stews, and sauces.

Ingredients

  • 1 turkey carcass

  • optional veggies (onions. carrots, celery)

Directions

  • Remove all usable meat.
  • Place the turkey carcass into a large slow cooker.
  • Add veggies like chunks of onion, carrots, or celery.
  • Cover everything with water.
  • Cook on low for 12 hours or overnight.
  • Strain the bone broth to remove large pieces and bones.
  • Store in the freezer (6 months) or keep it in the fridge for up to a week.

Notes

  • If you freeze it, make sure to allow room for expansion. If you fill it too full, it might break a quart-size canning jar and drench everything in the freezer. A friend told me that. I’ve never done it. Ok, maybe it was me.
  • Don’t worry if you don’t have canning jars. I repurpose 32 oz yogurt containers, plastic storage containers, and even gallon zip-seal bags.
