I ate way too many of these cookies after giving birth to boys 1 and 2. They are still some of my favorites and make an easy cookies-in-a-jar gift.

Ingredients

  • In the Jar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries

  • 1/4 cup chopped almonds or walnuts

  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats

  • Added Later
  • 1/2 cup melted butter cooled

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla

Directions

  • In a small bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
  • Using a quart-sized jar, layer the ingredients in the following order: flour mixture, brown sugar, white sugar, chocolate chips, cranberries, nuts, and oats.
  • If gifting the jar, include an instruction card with the following:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°. In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup of melted butter (cooled), 1 egg, and 1 tsp vanilla. Add the contents of the cookie jar to the bowl and mix well. Place balls of dough on a baking mat or parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes.

Notes

  • Need a gift for a new mom? Add 2 tbsp milled flaxseed and 1 tbsp brewer’s yeast to the oats before adding them to the jar. These make delicious lactation cookies.
