This is the classic recipe, but can easily be jazzed up with chopped nuts, flavored chips, M&Ms, or dried fruit.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 cup butter, softened two sticks

  • 3/4 cup sugar

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 2 eggs

  • 12oz pkg chocolate chips or two cups of whatever addition you’d like

  • 1 cup chopped nuts optional

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°.
  • In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugars. Add the eggs and vanilla. Mix well.
  • Gradually add in the flour mixture.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips or whatever additions you choose.
  • Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop balls of cookie dough onto the cookie sheet (baking mats are perfect for this), leaving 2 inches between each ball.
  • Bake for 9-11 minutes or until the edges are a medium brown, but the centers are still slightly soft. Allow the cookies to cool a couple minutes on the pan before transferring to a cooling rack.
